On our way to Helen, we drove through Cleveland, Georgia. Cleveland is the home of Babyland General Hospital and the Cabbage Patch Kids. It was sunny this day so we took pictures of the sign and decided to check it out, but because we were so late, the Hospital was already closed to visitors. So, Dave and I decided to visit it on our way back home. The company had just moved to this new location, so everything was new, crisp, and clean.

Unfortunately, the day we came back, the weather was just awful! Raining, windy, and cold. We were the first to arrive that morning. The hospital is actually a HUGE antebellum type house that sits on acres and acres of grassland. I wish we had taken a picture on the first day when it was nicer, but there were construction workers working on the road just in front of it. Despite the gloomy weather, you can tell how pretty the setting really is.

We entered the huge double doors at the front--"Admitting"

The lobby. Actually the doors you enter in are straight across from the Admitting Desk (to the left). Everyone is dressed in scrubs and nursing uniforms and the doctors and nurses are on duty for births and adoptions. The place is absolutely adorable and HUGE! It was decorated for Easter and actually the day before (when we were in Helen and Anna Ruby Falls) they'd hosted a HUGE eggstravaganza Easter egg hunt. There is one hall in the lobby that has only pictures of celebrities and their autographed pictures to Xavier Roberts (creator of the CPKs) and all the kids. It's quite fun!

The lobby is HUGE as well and is filled with cases of vintage Cabbage Patch Kids. The originals from the early 70s are actually worth up to about $40,000! The originals were actually made totally from fabric. The CPKs of the 1980s had the first plastic heads.

Off the lobby is the nursery. Notice the incubators in the back that are incubating cabbages.

Another nursery room. All CPKs around the several rooms are all awaiting adoption. There are hundreds of kids just wanting to go home with you. The nursery also played music and you could here the sounds of babies crying.

Another view of the hallway between the lobby and the nurseries

Here are some kids incubating in the cabbage patch

This tree is center to the cabbage patch and is the place where CPK's are born.
The doctor preparing for a birth --I actually videotaped this birth, but sadly the video won't upload~oh well. It's probably too big of a file.

The cabbage patch show room. There are preemies, babies, infants, toddlers and kids. The prices range from a few dollars for supplies to custom made kids worth hundreds of dollars. There are CPKs that are not available anywhere else but from Babyland General. Stefanie and I had talked and we both thought that her kids needed a CPK of their own. The problem: which ones?????? Of course, prices slimmed down our choices very quickly!

We only spent about an hour at Babyland General, but we had fun. Even Dave thought that the place was cute. Sadly, it was here that he started to get sick. He had eaten some biscuits with sausage gravy for breakfast at the hotel, and the sausage must have been turkey. He was sicker than a dog and ended up taking 2 Benadryl plusTylenol and Advil. He pretty much slept the 5 hours of driving away. I felt really bad for him.
