We all had the opportunity to go down to Orlando for a couple of days in February. Dave and I drove down on Thursday evening the 25th and Stefanie and Danny and kiddos arrived on Friday the 26th. We all stayed on Disney property at the Pop Century Hotel (the Motel 6 of Disney). We were assigned to a room in the 1950s section. This was the view from the landing in front of our hotel rooms. The room sections are all divided into the different decades and things associated with that decade are a part of the decor. We had bobby sox, table top juke boxes, and Lady & the Tramp. The weather was beautiful, so we all wandered around and checked out all the other decades along the way.

The next day, Saturday the 27th, we headed for Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, our beautiful weather from the day before had disappeared and we were greeted by lots of rain. It was pretty cold too! Nothing like going around Disney with an umbrella! Thankfully, the rain kept the crowds down, so we pretty much were able to go around and see/ride what we wanted when we wanted. Here's the wet bunch...
The castle looked pretty, but unfortunately it was closed so we had to go all around it from place to place~which would have been fine if the weather had been better.
The longest line we stood in was waiting to meet Buzz Lightyear. Ethan has really gotten into the "Toy Story" movies and was REALLY excited to see Buzz.
Emily on the other hand, LOVES mickey Mouse. We stood in our second longest line to meet both Mickey and Minnie over in Toontown at Mickey's house. Unfortunately about 3 minutes before we got to meet them, Ethan decided he absolutely needed to go to the bathroom and missed out on the whole thing. Surprisingly enough, Emily smiled instead of screamed.

Ethan was the captain of the boat on the Jungle Ride. He and Papa went on the Jungle Cruise while Stefanie and Danny rode Space Mountain, and Nana and Emily hung out people-watching (Nana actually did that while Emily snoozed)

Ethan rode the kiddie roller coaster with Papa - they are in the first car at the front.
Ethan shared with us that his favorite ride of the day was the Carousel--go figure, we go to Disney and he likes the Carousel....
The castle was changing colors in the night sky. We only got pictures of the orange, but it also changed to pink, purple, blue, and red.
Emily loved the electrical parade that evening. She "oooh'd and ahhh'd" and squealed during it. It made us all laugh! When the parade was over, Danny and Stefanie headed back to their car and made the 4 hour journey back home. Dave and I on the other hand, have become wimps, we hauled our exhausted bodies back to the hotel and headed back home the next morning.

Recently, Stefanie and Danny participated in the "Give one day, get one day" promotional where after a day of service in our community, they earned a free pass good for a day in any Disney park. We have already made preliminary plans to go back the weekend of December 9th - a time when traditionally the parks are less busy. Want to join us?

It was awesome being there for Ethan's and Emily's first day at Walt Disney World. We hope to get Caitlin and Caleb out here some time too....
I think all the kids had a great time...even the oldest ones! Who doesn't love Disney?!

Love the pictures...especially the one of Stef and Goofy, and the kids and the characters! We've stayed at pop century, too, and it's so fun! We need to go back someday...

Had to smile when you said the best part of D'world was the carousel.... Time to meet in Berkeley and take the Tilden Carousel. We go there every time we go back for a visit. And now Bill's son is working there! That and the old steam train are annual requirements.
Did you know they've removed the playground just below the merry-go-round that we used to play on? Too dangerous, I'm told.
And Curty thinks the enormous "big wheel" in your photos is the coolest thing ever. 1980's.... Guess that wasn't either his generation or ours.....
The backhoe in your other post reminds me of when we did some clearing work here, and Curty and his Uncle did some work with some heavy equipment here. He still remembers that as a highlight of his childhood!
