A House Update: The Wonderful World of Color!

Last week, Dave, Derren, and Jake finished the texturing and priming of the walls. This is Dave after texturing---he was not so covered this time!

This past week, Derren and Dave have been laying the second layer of sub-floor-- a vantech board guaranteed for 50 years (hmmmm... I wonder if it resists flooding. Ha! Ha!). It's nice to have the floors feel solid again! They still have half the house to cover, but this weekend (Saturday, yesterday) we spent the whole day painting...

Dave began in the 3/4 bath off the kitchen hallway---it's a light gold.

A couple of hours later, the Mitchell family came by to help! Travis, who also happens to be our wonderful bishop, and his wonderful wife, Jenn began by tackling the main bathroom. The color is "Cameo" and is really not as pink, pink as this picture shows...the color was pretty on the swatch---Travis and Jenn and their 3 girls have assured me that they all like the color (Dave says they are just being nice! Tee hee!) and it really will look better when everything is in. I sure hope so...

Jenn and the girls also helped in the master bedroom---this is a sage green.

Abby thought she'd try a round with the Paintstik roller. She did a nice job, but that roller gets heavy. Her sisters, Shelby and Abby also had a go-round, but they were more help to me opening, mixing, and filling the paintstik. They also found some brushes and helped to "cut in" around the room. Everyone did such a nice job!

Coco was a bit overwhelmed and found herself a corner inside the master closet. Danny was busy painting the master bath a "Pale Crocus" aka lavendar. He almost made it all around the room before the paint ran out. That was one big problem---we totally underestimated the amount of paint we needed. I ended up making two runs to Lowe's to keep us in the painting business. The first visit to Lowe's ended up with me bringing home two cans of paint that were the shade lighter than what we had been using (I picked up the wrong paint chip and had to guess when at Lowe's), but Lowe's took back my mistakes, and gave me two gallons of what I needed. I've been impressed with the wonderful customer service in their paint department!

When Danny began "cutting in" with the little bit of paint he had left, Ethan asked to help. Danny showed him how, and for a few strokes he had fun--then I think he realized how much work it really is!

Here's Emily Mitchell helping with the cutting in of the master bath. We still have a lot more work in this bathroom, but Danny, Ethan, and Emily sure made a huge dent in the workload! Thanks guys!

Here are a few pictures of our wonderfully colorful house--I'm still hoping I end up liking it all! Ha! The master bath...Pale Crocus

Our master bedroom---Sage green

The main bath: Cameo (the bottom right hand corner where it is a little darker is a bit truer to the actual color--at least on my monitor.................................... and the den: Olive 3 Green (yes, really, it is not sage green---this is probably my favorite color)

The kitchen: Toasted coconut

The colors are a bit of a stretch for us, but hey, paint can always be covered by more paint. So, yesterday with the generous help of Danny and the Mitchell family, we were able to paint all the bathrooms, the kitchen, the den, the master bedroom, and 3 (white) walls of the guest bedroom--we're going to repaint the 4th wall burgandy/deep red.

We still need to finish touching up the ceiling, cutting in on the den and kitchen, finishing the master bath, and then we have the exercise room, hallway, game room, and living room. Next Saturday, we are having another painting party, and several folks from church have agreed to come out and help. So, we'll be painting again next weekend, and we hope to get it all finished (along with the subfloor) so that we can begin putting in the flooring! Whoo hoo!

Thanks to everyone!!!!!! Thank you for sacrificing many hours of a precious Saturday to help us! We appreciate you all so much!

Now THAT is a LOT of painting. Ugh...makes me remember how much I hate painting, just looking at it. It's looking great thought!
