A House Update

We can finally say that the demolition process of our house is about done. Now we're beginning the reconstruction process. We are still waiting for Freddie Mac to make up their minds about our insurance funds--they have been in a holding account since October 14th. Today I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with the mortgage company only to learn that nothing has changed. We continue to wait---and no, there is nothing we can do. So, wait we do...

Anyway, back to the update. Dave and Darren have been busy getting insulation back in and the drywall up. We will hire someone to tape, mud, prime, texture, and paint the walls, BUT, we won't do any of that until we find out if it will be cost effective to raise our house. Getting folks to come out and give us bids is like pulling teeth! You'd think in the current economic situation, folks would be knocking on our door to find work. No such luck.

We did get a member of the church out to take a look at our air conditioner unit. He thinks that with the replacement of a couple of key parts (motor, blower) it should work again. Since the unit is less than 5 years old, it is worth the try.

Here are some pictures of the progress...

Insulation up in the walls of the half bath off the kitchen. According to Darren who worked out at the house this weekend, the walls all have dry wall now too! Whoo hoo!
Dave removing the nails from the molding around the bathroom door. The doorway right in front will be completely torn out. It was put there to make the half bath and the extra room that we used as a den a "suite". Since it has no door and makes no sense to keep it, the whole thing will just be removed.

The den...all sheet-rocked!
The other side of the den...the closet has been finished with insulation and dry wall now.
Dave figures it takes about 10 hours per room (1 person) to insulate and hang the drywall, so, in a few more weekends, we should have the rest of the house done! Dave and Darren also replaced the cross beams and the subfloor the guest room. Hooray---no more big hole in that room (but sorry, no pictures--I haven't even seen it yet!)

Dave and Linda, That is so awesome. I really want to come and help. I am a quick learner, and that would be one more set of hands. maybe sometime when I don't have the kids I will just drive down there, and help. Hope you're well, love you guys, Amy :)
