Auction for the Mennonite School

Every year, on the first Saturday of May, the Mennonite community holds an auction to raise funds for their school. We had never been before, so we all decided to head out and check it out. They auctioned all kinds of things--clothes, furniture (indoor and outdoor), knick-knacks, plants, and even puppies (AKC labs) and a baby goat pulling a little cart, plus lots of other things and services that had been donated. The auction actually lasted almost 4 hours! You could also buy fresh baked goods (they have a store in town so we already knew what treats we wanted to buy)and a chicken dinner to enjoy during the auction. They also had a cow train, swings, and jumping cage for the kids. We ended up buying a small solid oak hutch that no one bid on (except us--it ended up being the bargain of the day!) some plants, and a tied quilt (that again, no one else bid on). It was fun. Here are a few pictures before the event:

This garden set (the whole thing is a glider) was one of the items we decided to bid on--unfortunately it quickly left our price range and ended up selling for $575!

This swingset was also of interest to us--but it sold for over $400! We sure thought it would have looked great overlooking the pond...

Another fun activity. Next year's auction is scheduled for May 2, 2009---you bet we'll be there!
