Dave's Bad Day

You may want to select the best background music for this post--just double click on the second song, "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire"

Well, it's been one of those days for Dave. His first mistake--getting out of bed this morning!

Dave thought he'd get into the holiday spirit and put up our Christmas lights and put out what we lovingly call his "lawn trash". All of this good stuff has been housed out in our barn for three years without incident. Well, it seems that several (and I mean SEVERAL) squirrels had moved into the barn this past year. They have caused havoc--they have shredded, torn, scratched, scraped, chewed, and in short, destroyed everything they have touched. Dave told me that all the boxes in which he stores his lawn trash ended up in the burn pile because they had been shredded by our unwelcome tenants. When he pulled out his lawn trash, he discovered that the mangy tree rodents had chewed through most of the cords and some of the actual items:

Here are a few examples:
Note the hole in the donkey's foot. We bought the donkey last year...

This poor soldier didn't have a chance! He has met his final resting place in our trash bin Mary's poor nose has been nibbled - that's just WRONG! Baby Jesus has also had his manger chewed, but we have spared you the shock by not photographing it!
Electrical cords must be tasty--with all the oak trees with lots of acorns surrounding the barn we're trying to figure out what the attraction is to plastic! This is only one of MANY chewed cords!
Then...while hosing off his lawn trash...the sprayer disintegrated and showered him and everything else!
The house lights were all working last year-- just call it par for the course!

Dave's very sad face! He spent more time cleaning up, repairing, etc. than actually having any fun. So much for getting into the holiday spirit! Poor Dave! Hmmm...they say squirrel is very tasty, a little gamey, but tasty..now where did we put that shot gun?!

that is fantastic!! poor dave...I wonder how squirrl's would taste with a little gravy? you need to use "decon" all over your barn, that is how my parents lovingly killed "mickey" (may he rest in peace).......oh and my brother once built a squirrl trap to get our little unwanted creature....animal abusers. My dad hates, with a firey passion, squirrls....

I'm sorry Dave that your holiday decorating didn't go as planned. Mine didn't either. I started getting all of our bins out of the garage and then the weather changed and it was windy which made it annoyingly difficult to put up the lights on our deck. Then of course it got darker sooner that I wanted it too. Which by the way I had two sets of lights that look like yours, one section just won't work, so they are still in a bin. I hope you get rid of those rascals. We had some four legged furry creatures in our shop that got a hold of some of my Halloween decorations and cost me about $60 in new decorations and costumes. Hope you all have a great week. Amy Watson

Man, that stinks! I never thought of squirrels as such pesky critters. I guess we don't have enough trees around here to enjoy the company of squirrels. We grow some big field mice though! ;) Hope the Christmas decorating gets better!

Cheer up little camper...

Out with the old and in with the new. This gives Linda something to go to garage sales for. I am glad to see the soldiers made it out safe and sound.
